The team rely mainly on the goodwill of the general public for donations to sustain the team on its general running costs, as the team needs to raise between £10,000 and £15,000 annually just for this. The running costs are to maintain all the team’s equipment and that is without purchasing any additional specialised equipment that is required. Team members pay for their own equipment and training exercises and their own personal costs to travel to incidents. Also they make a donation for their call out pagers
The Welsh Assembly Government, grant £6,600 annually, shared between all the
Mountain Rescue Teams in Wales (some 17 teams) and the Police cover team
members for personal life insurance, whilst on training and exercise. Also in
some instances they will give a fuel grant for the team’s vehicles,
based on fuel mileage for incidents
only, not for training, or for team members personal vehicles.
The team benefit regularly from Tesco Stores, kindly allowing the team to
hold collection days at its local
stores, whereby team members present collection boxes for public donations.
This the team believe not only to be a valuable exercise in obtaining much
needed public donations, but also to meet the public to further explain its
work and to show that the team is an
integral part of the community.
In addition the team is presently raising capital funds for a major redesign
of its HQ and is presently investigating different
alternatives for the existing building, or
for a new site. This the team believes will be of benefit, as the vehicles
would then located under secure
cover and provide a purpose built training room and equipment store etc.
Unfortunately fundraising relies on team members giving up more time from
team training and incidents and if you are able to assist in any way with
fundraising then please contact the team direct through contacting the team
secretary on this website.
