Formerly known as Bridgend Mountain Rescue, Western Beacons Mountain Search and Rescue Team responds to emergencies such as lost or injured people in mountainous, remote and rough terrain. Called upon by the police through the 999 system, the team’s main operational area is the western area of the Brecon Beacons and spread across the areas of the South and West Wales.

 

Having the capability to carry out search and rescue on remote and rough terrain, the team are also equipped with a mobile incident control vehicle, a 4x4 ambulance and specialised cliff rescue equipment. The team also supports the police in searching for missing vulnerable people in urban environments.

As a member and one of the founder members of the South Wales Search and Rescue Association, the team integrates with both military and other organisations when necessary. The team comprises of volunteers from all walks of life, who give all their time and services freely. As a registered charity (No. 500652) the team relies solely on donations for equipment and operational cosT.
